Welcome to Assam Association Of The Deaf

A brief history of Assam Association of the Deaf, an affiliate of AIFD The Assam Association of the Deaf (AAD) was established in the year of 1960 in Shillong, the then capital of Assam and its first President (AAD) was Jana Neta, Ex Chief Minister of Assam late Sarat CH. Singha. The head office of the Association was at Ambari on a rented house. The Shillong was to Dispur transferred as capital. Ex. Health Minister late Shri Girin Choudhury was elected as Vice President of AAD while he was President of T.B. Hospital Society. He contributed a substantial plot of land admeasuring one Bigha 1 (Katha) 19 (Nineteen) Lessa belonging to his society and was officially handed over to the Deaf Association.

The AAD is the oldest Non-Governmental Social Organization in North East and was serving the Deaf for the last 61 (sixty one) years and is too an Associate Member of World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), based at Helsinki (Finland) and successfully performing in the field of Social Welfare activities i.e. blood donation camps, painting competitions, sculpture workshops, quiz competitions Yoga Workshops, Competition In Cricket, Mime, Dance & Drama, Carom, Fashion, Employment Social welfare etc. in association with Assam Govt. and other Non-Governmental Organizations. The association is highly focussed on education and employment for the Deaf and has achieved for the glory to the state by participating in National and International sports & games, dance, drama. The ASSOCIATION HAS HOSTED THE 4TH ALL INDIA DEAF CONFERENCE IN GUWAHATI IN 1973 FOR THE FIRST TIME.

The Association has established its own Junior College named "North East College for Hearing Impaired" (NECHI) to launch its special classes for the Deaf in 2009. The Social Welfare Department has issued NOC in favour of establishing such a college. The annual grant from the Social Welfare Department has been approved.
